A Time to Celebrate...and to say thank you!
What an amazing two months we have just been through with all our plans falling into place for the official Opening Day of Seaford Wetland Community Garden with two indigenous women conducting a First Nations Smoking Ceremony, and our members, community leaders, politicians, and friends celebrating our progress. It is indeed an Opening; certainly not a Completion for that probably will never happen. It's an exciting journey that will continue as long as it has supporters willing to lend a hand and thankfully we have lots of supporters. With scarcely time to draw breath, it was off and running straight after the Opening Day with a fundraising BBQ to prepare and a Greenhouse to get organised. Meanwhile, days are getting shorter and cooler climate weeds are starting to show.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our Opening Day
Spirit of Unity's Naomi and Maureen for the Smoking Ceremony, the music and song, and the blessing of the land on which we met.
Deputy Premier Susan Close, Kaurna MP and Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton, Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga Moira Were for their opening speeches and continuing support of the community garden
Our amazing, hard working committee who organised the program, invited the special guests, collected raffle donations, organised bbq and vegan options for lunch, gave our visitors tours of the garden, sold plants and bunting, organised children's and adult's workshops and then packed it all away at the end of the day.
All our members, friends and supporters who came along on the day to make it special. It was lovely to see Jack Clarke, Hannah and family. Jack was the original designer and grant applicant for this project which gave us a real kickstart in Oct 2021
Seaford Gourmet Meats for donating 20kg of sausages for the BBQ
Seaford Rotary for cooking and serving the BBQ and drinks
Workshop presenters Amanda Fleming, Trevor and Amber and Chrissy
Willunga Ukuleles for providing musical entertainment
Hackham West Community Centre for running their Coffee Cart
Mel and Jan for providing the Vegan food options
And a big thank you to local businesses who donated raffle prizes totalling about $700.

Fundraising Bunnings BBQs
Our last Bunnings BBQ was held on Saturday 18th May and we made a profit of $1300. Many thanks to Rory, Narrah, Stella, Mel, Helena, Kaarin, Liz, Roger, Jan, Manahil, Annette, Sara, Jennie, Linda and Fynnley.
Our next Bunnings BBQ will be on Saturday 18th May from 8.30am - 4pm. We usually work in 2 hour shifts.
Please get in touch if you are able to assist on the day. We still have a couple of shifts to fill and this is an easy and fun way to contribute to the facilities in the garden, meet lots of people, sell a few raffle tickets and tell our customers about a great community garden.
Love to hear from you - please email Wayne on the garden email:
The Greenhouse
Our new greenhouse has been sitting rather forlornly in the loading bay waiting to be assembled. Thanks to the efforts of Rory setting up the formwork, reinforcing mesh, and organising all the concrete materials and with fantastic help from Robert on the shovel we now have a very professional concrete footing for the greenhouse base. Watch this space for the latest addition to our community garden. Thanks to Jan and Robert for organising the mixer.
Driving and Parking cars at the Garden - please do not drive vehicles on to the garden lease area unless you have express permission from one of the committee to deliver materials or equipment. Please also do not park in the Ambulance/CFS car parks and in Grange and Somerton Courts.
